Ausmaß = scale, extent. The genitive “epischen Ausmaßes” is the idiomatic frame.

We are on the verge of a scientific breakthrough.
Wir stehen kurz vor einem wissenschaftlichen Durchbruch.
kurz vor etwas stehen = to be on the verge of something.

He can keep sharing stories till the cows come home.
Er kann Geschichten erzählen, bis er schwarz wird.
No cows in German — bis er schwarz wird (“until he turns black”) means forever.

Germans say “big chance” rather than “lucky break” — it’s what a native would reach for.
